Origin: South America.

Description: Calatheas are amongst the easiest plants to grow. They are valued for their foliage which has amazing patterns. Flowers are insignificant.
C. makoyana, known as the Peacock plant, has leaf reversed patterned in red violet; the new leaves are shaped like ice-cream cones.
Plants vary in height according to species, 20cm- 1.2 meters.
Position: Plants need warmth and humidity. They will thrive in any light from dim to bright, but never full sun.
Stumpy’s Cultivation Tips : Plant root divisions in spring in clay pots half filled with rubble and charcoal for good drainage. Surround roots with peaty compost. Place pots in a tray filled with pebbles.
Problems and Calathea Care : Red spider mite and Mealy bug. Use Confidor to eradicate Mealy Bug. Confidore is non toxic. Pyrethrum will also help keep away Red spider mite.
