Most people want not only a change in lifestyle, but an improved change of lifestyle whilst they are on holidays. If you, for example, live in the mountains or the bush, you’ll probably want to get down to the sea. “I must down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky.” On the other hand, if you live by the beach you might want to go inland. But whatever the change desired, certain aspects are needed to make that planned Garden Apartment Holiday an enjoyably memorable one. We will assume, for the moment, that you’re a large city dweller who lives in the suburbia of that city. You’re a towny. You’ve been surrounded by city sounds, sights, smells and noise. You long for a quiet beachfront location for your garden apartment holidays. Where to go? You could try a travel agent. But then, they might try to give you the “hard sell.” Maybe you could find out about a good place from a friend or through a reputable website.

Complete isolation? No? Just round the corner, so to speak, from a swinging holiday resort? Yes? Actual distance, is the thing here. You’re five kilometers out of town; you’ll need your car. You’re three hundred meters from the town’s centre, you can fly there, and use “shank’s pony.” i.e. stroll everywhere. However far the distance to the township itself, you’re on holiday! You want to eat at the restraurants, stroll in the parks, have a beer in the beer-garden of the local pub. And, of course, swim or surf at the beach. Have you got kids? Little kids? Are there safe places for them to play on your garden apartment holidays? Does the beach have a safe-surf area and life guards? And on the fun side: Can you hire boogey boards, and canoes for use on the river inlet or lake? Also, what else is reasonably close by? A place where you can take the kids to see interesting wildlife: parrots, dolphins, kangaroos? It is no coincidence that such locations as The Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast with all their facilities for the family are so popular. But you’re about to go on holiday. The arguments about where to go and at what time and with whom have already been settled. You’re not going coastal after all. Been there, done that a dozen times. This time it’s the bush- the Snowy Mountains, maybe. Yes, in summer. No snow. Well, you’ll still want much of the same wherever you go: Good, spacious accommodation allowing privacy – you still have a love life, after all – and ready access to all the facilities you want to enjoy. In this case it might be bush trails where you can walk, or ride. You and the kids can ride mountain bikes, or trail bikes, or even hire horses to ride. Questions might be: Will we need a four-wheel drive to get to the places we really want to go? Maybe not the mountains after all. Lot of muddy tracks. Maybe inland? A “dude-ranch” cattle station which welcomes adolescent children and teenagers? Our kids are of that age now. Yes, maybe this is the way to go. Can you see the questions that need to be asked and answered before you go on your garden apartment holidays? Taking pot luck, that is, without checking, could get you the best holiday you’ve ever had. But more than likely it’ll get you the worst! So don’t chance it. Plan, then check the plan. If you do this, you’re very likely to have that really great holiday you’ve been looking forward to for all this time.

"We wish you luck", and happy Garden Apartment Holidays, Marty
