Zebra Plant Care
Zebra Plant Care
Aphelandra Squarrosa
Origin : South America
Description: The Zebra Plant used to be a very popular plant in Australia and it seems to be coming back into fashion. See the page
Unique Indoor House Plants, for more information
The reason why people love the Zebra plant so much is its showy golden summer flowers and splendid foliage. The foliage is striped in dark green and cream. Plants grow up to 50cm high, 20 inches.
Position: With the Zebra Plant, light needs to be medium-bright with no direct sunlight. Turn plants occasionally so all foliage receives some light. Zebra plants suffer when the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius but can usually get by in a warm corner.
Stumpy’s Cultivation Tips: in spring, plant one cutting each in a pot of sandy potting mix. Feed from spring to autumn. Remove spent flower heads. Clean leaves and mist foliage in hot weather. Taper off watering in winter. Repot each year.
Problems : Root rot caused by over watering the plants.
I hope you enjoyed another part to our indoor plant series.
